This server holds copies of the mp3 and powerpoint files generated from the Sunday services. If you click on a mp3 and you do not hear the mp3 being played then you need to configure your computer to play mp3's from a web server. The sound from the Sunday morning services is mixed using a Mackie 1604-VLZ mixer, the signal from the RCA tape-outs is routed to a M-Audio USB OmniStudio which is a 4 channel digital mixer/interface. The digital signal is taken via the usb port and recorded using the audacity program running on an Apple G4 1.25Ghz Mac Mini.
At the end of the service the audio file is saved as a 128kbs mp3 file with the date as the filename and copied to the Linux web server along with the powerpoint file (also has the date as the filename). The Linux machine runs a series of perl scripts every hour looking for new mp3/ppt files, when it finds a new mp3 file it calls the lame program to re-encode the mp3 down to 24kbs sampled at 22.05kHz. The produces a mp3 file that runs about 12Mb / hr (compared to 600Mb for CD and 60Mb for normal mp3s). The small mp3 file and the powerpoints are copied automatically into a download directory and then another perl script runs that extracts the artist and title tags from the mp3 and uses that to generate the table on the download page. The dates are generated from the filenames themselves. If you'd like any scripts please let us know and we will pass them on.
